AN AYR WRITERS’ CLUB EVENT

A first for AYR WRITERS’ CLUB ?

AYR WRITERS’ CLUB may be fifty-three years old, but we think this event may have been a first! Having joined in 2010, I was delighted to organise it, at Ayr’s new arts venue, The Cutty-sark Centre, at the foot of Ayr High Street.

This provided the opportunity for the public pop in between 10am and 4pm, to buy books which members have had published, and listen as members shared excerpts and information about their route to publication.

For history enthusiasts, I offered two 30-minute, site-specific talks based on my social history book, OCULEUS: The Musings of a Liberal Victorian in Ayr, about life in the town in 1898, taking listeners on a bit of a time travel journey, and answering questions.

 For people whose writing appetite had been whetted, they were able to find out about the new programme starting in September, and how to join up.

 

A Taste of the Day

  • EVENT POSTER

    The event was the first of its sort in the Cutty-sark Centre and was organised in partnership with South Ayrshire Council.

  • SOCIAL HISTORY TALKS

    I provided a site specific talk about life in Ayr in 1898.

  • BOOK SALE

    Nine local authors provided 25 published titles for sale to the public, including anthologies, novels, children’s and non-fiction.

  • READER EXTRACTS

    Five of our authors shared excerpts and details of their publications with listeners.

  • CHILDREN'S BOOKS

    Rose MacGregor was one of four children’s authors selling publications.
